Hardly a week goes by when one of our dedicated employees doesn’t do something heroic on behalf of our guests.  This fall, however, two of our Equis Hospitality team members went way above the call of duty, and in doing so, were designated “Hospitality Super Heroes” by the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission.

Each year, the St. Louis CVC recognizes front line professionals in the hospitality industry for exceptional guest service.  This year, two of the 12 honorees hailed from our very own Residence Inn by Marriott St. Louis Downtown.  In addition to the positive attitude, professional demeanor and collaborative approach they take every day with their jobs, Jerry Benten and Angie Detter performed heroic acts of service for which they were recognized.  Here are their stories:

Jerry Benton
Engineer

At the end of their stay, a family from the United Kingdom discovered much to their dismay that their child’s prosthetic legs were missing from their hotel room!  They contacted the front desk and Jerry quickly made tracks for the dumpster.  After digging through 20 bags of trash, he found the box containing the legs, valued at $36,000.  Covered with grime but in perfect working order, the package was presented by a smiling Jerry to the family, who was grateful for his quick action.

Angie Detter
Breakfast Attendant

A guest staying at the hotel for an extended time due to a fire at her home had some health issues.  After meeting the guest one morning, Angie took it upon herself to bring the woman breakfast and visit with her daily.  After completing her daily shift, Angie brought the guest her mail.  Each night, she laundered the guest’s clothes for her.  The guest has since moved back home, but grateful to Angie’s personal touch, she has kept in touch with her new friend, Angie.
